Trotanoy 2003 - Pomerol
Do you know where the name Trotanoy comes from? In old French, "trop anoi" or "trop ennuie" means weariness from working the land.
The estate, just over 7 hectares, is located on one of the best exposed parts of the famous Pomerol plateau.
The Jean-Pierre Moueix establishments (Latour, Lagrange, Belair-Monange, Dominus, etc.) acquired it in 1953.
The mix of soils gives the wine power and depth as well as great complexity.
Château Trotanoy is one of the most sought-after wines of Pomerol and produces wines suitable for decades of aging!
2003 is a good year in Bordeaux, the wines are opulent and concentrated. Great wines like this Trotanoy will reach their peak after about twenty years of aging.
Tasting notes by René Gabriel from January 2022: Château Trotanoy 2003 Magnum, Pomerol
Dress: What is striking compared to other vintages is its not particularly deep color, a minimal orange rim, with a beautiful red inside.
Nose: Full, sweet, almost a little plump nose, expansive, lots of caramel, butter, coconut, vanilla and plum juice from breakfast.
Palate: Rich in the mouth like a Northern Rhone wine and in some ways it tastes similar. Or just like a rich Chateauneuf. On the finish you can feel pepper berries.
A great wine in itself. If you are looking for a typical "Pomerol" wine at Trotanoy, this is not the vintage. And it is not the only one in this hot year of 2003. I am perhaps too critical because it will find its fans again. 17/20
