Old Telegraph 1994 - Chateauneuf-du-Pape - La Crau

The estate owes its name to the inventor of the telegraph, Claude Chappe, who installed his first relay towers on the estate in 1821. The estate, which had already been owned by the Brunier family for over a century, was not yet used for wine production.

As is often the case in Châteauneuf, the estate is of a respectable size. With its 65 hectares of vines whose average age exceeds 65 years, the estate produces only about 200,000 bottles per year. The yields are therefore very low.

About the 1994 vintage: Parker gave it a score of 93 pts (which in the 90s was a really high score). This wine has always been produced on the Crau plateau, a stony terroir with particularly good exposure. The name "La Crau" appears for the first time on the label of this 1994 vintage, before remaining there until today.
