Presentation of the Huet estate :
Domaine Huet is one of the most famous in the Vouvray region of Touraine, in the Loire Valley. Founded in 1928 by Victor Huet, it is now run by Jean-Bernard Berthome and produces some of the best wines in the region. The 35-hectare vineyard is planted exclusively with Chenin Blanc on the slopes of Vouvray and is spread over three different terroirs, each with its own character and style.
Presentation of the vintage:
Haut-Lieu Moelleux is one of Huet’s most famous wines. It is a sweet wine made from Chenin Blanc grapes on the Haut-Lieu terroir, a legendary site for Vouvray wine production. Haut-Lieu Moelleux is produced from overripe grapes that are harvested late to achieve a high sugar concentration and refreshing acidity. After fermentation, the wine is aged for several years in oak barrels to achieve aromatic complexity and a silky texture.
The cultivation of the vines is carried out in a traditional way. The soil is maintained mechanically, without chemical weedkillers and only with organic fertilizers.
The protection of the vineyard is carried out with natural substances, without insecticides and without synthetic chemical products.
The work on the soil and in the vineyard is carried out according to the rhythms of the planets.
This cultivation method allows the estate to maintain and develop the originality of its wines.
The Huet estate is the most renowned and famous in Vouvray.
The vines of Domaine Huet are between 30 and 50 years old.
The vintages from places like this one are exceptional and unrivaled because they are distinguished and refined.
About the 1997 vintage in Vouvray:
The 1997 Haut-Lieu Moelleux is an exceptional vintage for this cuvée. The climatic conditions were perfect to produce overripe and concentrated Chenin Blanc grapes, giving the wine a rich aromatic palette of ripe fruit, honey and spice. On the palate, it is rich and fat with balanced acidity that brings a beautiful freshness on the finish.
Food and wine pairing:
The 1997 Haut-Lieu Moelleux pairs perfectly with sweet desserts such as fruit tarts, crème brûlées or a Tarte Tatin. It can also be served with blue cheeses such as Roquefort or Bleu d'Auvergne.
Serving Tips: The 1997 Haut-Lieu Moelleux should be served chilled but not too cold, at a temperature of around 10-12°C. It can be opened immediately or cellared for several more decades for those who wish to age it further. There is no need to decant it.
