Trévallon 2017 - IGP Alpilles
Eloi Dürrbach is what one might call an autodidact. While he was moving towards architectural studies, he discovered his passion and his vocation for the vines.
He abandoned his studies and cleared quarries in order to plant 17 hectares of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Some found this idea far-fetched at the time but for all that it was perfectly studied in the 19th century already by Doctor Jule Guyot before the ravages of Phylloxera.
Eloi Dürrbach equips himself with vats that he will not be able to afford until years later. Here is a brilliant winegrower who started from nothing, so to speak. The first vinifications are even carried out outdoors.
The work pays off, since in 1978, Aubert de Vilaine of the famous Domaine de la Romanée Conti was won over by the tasting of his wines, he then spoke to an American importer who wanted to buy everything from him! Then it is Robert Parker's turn to discover the wines of the Domaine de Trévallon, he will then write a short article in the Wine Advocate in 1984 which will concretize the success of the Domaine. It is therefore me, 10 years after the first vintage released in 1976, that the Domaine is already making a strong impression on the international scene. If the estate is well known to Anglo-Saxons, its wines can be found on the great tables of starred restaurants.
Eloi Dürrbach was a man of character and whole, he quarreled somewhat with the American importer and PR, which therefore put him in oblivion for fifteen years, which encouraged him to sell more in France, he could then count on celebrities such as Gérard Depardieu, Carole Bouquet or even Jean Carmet who were great lovers of Domaine de Trévallon wines.
The Domaine de Trévallon is a family affair, from the beginning his wife has been by his side, then his children and the different graphics that you can find in each vintage, are none other than drawings by his father, an artist, to whom he brought colored pencils with which he drew 50 works.
The vinification is reasoned, the wines worked in organic culture.
Unfortunately Eloi Dürrbach dies at the end of 2021, at the age of 71, it is his children and his wife who carry on the history of the Estate.
The 2011 vintage was harvested from September 4 to 14.
The vinification is without destemming, neither yeasting nor sulfur.
Aging is 24 months in casks . Finishing with fresh egg white, without filtration at bottling.
