Brunello di Montalcino 1981 - Biondi-Santi cantina Il Greppo
Brunello di Montalcino Biondi-Santi is the first Brunello in history and for 150 years has embodied the vision that inspired Clemente Santi to create his first expression in the 19th century. Today, as yesterday, it is a distinct wine, with a complex and refined personality.
THE 1981 VINTAGE
An excellent seasonal trend marked by a rainy and mild May, a dry and hot July and August, ending with a rainless September. Completely dry harvest period.
This Brunello di Montalcino 1981 was produced with the Sangiovese Grosso clone BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the seventies. For this Brunello, grapes from vineyards aged 10 to 25 years were used.
The 1981 vintage aged for 3 years in oak barrels (not new) from Slavonia before benefiting from a very long aging in the bottle.
Exceptional provenance: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles were all preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles reflect storage in total darkness for more than 30 years!
