Brunello di Montalcino 1979 - Biondi-Santi cantina Il Greppo
Brunello di Montalcino Biondi-Santi is the first Brunello in history and for 150 years has embodied the vision that inspired Clemente Santi to create his first expression in the 19th century. Today, as yesterday, it is a distinct wine, with a complex and refined personality.
THE 1979 VINTAGE in Montalcino: Great wines for aging
The cool spring gave way to a hot summer with regular but not too abundant rainfall. Good conditions allowed the harvest to begin at the end of September.
Production volume at Montalcino was slightly higher than the average in previous years. The wines are structured and have great aging capacity.
This Brunello di Montalcino 1979 was produced with the Sangiovese Grosso clone BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the 1970's. For this Brunello, grapes from vineyards aged 10 to 25 years were used.
The 1979 vintage aged for 3 years in oak barrels (not new) from Slavonia before benefiting from a very long aging in the bottle.
Serving tip: this wine will require many hours of opening before tasting. The ideal is to open it at lunchtime for the evening meal.
