The history of this hill is quite pretty. But to summarize, a knight, in the 13th century, decided to isolate himself from the world and settled on the top of this hill, he was, little by little, joined by others who decided to plant vines there. The Hermitage actually owes its name to the hermit, the vineyard already existed during Antiquity with the wines of Vienne.

The wines have an exceptional aging potential, up to 40 years and over!

The cuvée is made from very old Syrah vines on stakes.

The 1979 vintage is one of the estate's greatest successes. Although it does not live up to the legendary 1978 vintage, it remains a grandiose wine.

Richer than it appears, it is just beginning to offer aromas of liquid tar, blackcurrant, plum, cedar and smoke. (RP 1996)

Exceptional provenance: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles were all preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles demonstrate storage in total darkness for more than 30 years!
