Hermitage La Chapelle 1988 - Paul Jaboulet Ainé
Hermitage La Chapelle is a wine of anthology in the tiny world of wine lovers."The mythical reputation of this cru has been built, over the centuries on a legendary hill and history "
The history of this hill is quite pretty. But to summarize, a knight, in the 13th century, decided to isolate himself from the world and settled on the top of this hill, he was, little by little, joined by others who decided to plant vines there. The Hermitage actually owes its name to the hermit, the vineyard already existed during Antiquity with the wines of Vienne.
The wines have an exceptional aging potential, up to 40 years and over!
The cuvée is made from very old Syrah vines on stakes.
The 1988 vintage: After the rain..
1988 did not start in the best conditions for the wines of the Northern Rhône and its Syrah. However, after an early spring that suffered hail and heavy rain, the summer and the harvest were magnificent, producing full-bodied, rich and tannic Syrah.
As with the 1988 Bordeaux, there is no compromise, either it is ripe or it is not! With this Hermitage la Chapelle, no fear, success is there, 92 Parker points and glowing tasting comments:
Powerful and extremely rich, it stands out as one of the most classic expressions of Syrah. R. Parker 1996
It is starting to approach its peak and this can be seen in the very strong appreciation of its coast. Don't miss this bottle before it's too late.
Note from WUAT: This bottle comes with many others from the cellar of a great Syrah lover. They have been beautifully preserved in a humid natural cellar, on metal cradles. Labels are often heavily disaggregated. We cleaned them very carefully and filmed them. We recommend not removing the films to avoid completely tearing off the labels. It's up to you to see if you're a player.
