Les Pagodes de Cos 1997 - Saint-Estèphe
75 cl
Second wine of Cos d'Estournel
86 Pts RP
Perfect Condition
In the same way as many Châteaux of Bordeaux, this second wine of Cos d'Estounel comes from the young vines of the domain.
These Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines, aged between 5 and 20 years old, were used until 1994 for the production of Château Marbuzet.
If it is less "sharp" and less "full" than its big brother (it is also much cheaper), the Pagodes remains a true St-Estèphe who benefits from the know-how of the house.
The wine is powerful and concentrated but stays fresh and supported by a nice acidity. Although the 1997 vintage is not the one we will remember the most (far from it) these Pagodes are a nice surprise!
The wine is made in an "old style" way. In other words, powerful tannins, little fruit, almost no sugar and an important aging in oak barrels. The result is a wine that is a bit rustic but ultimately interesting and ready to drink.
We recommend a short decanting for half an hour before serving.
