Cos d'Estournel 1988 - Saint-Estèphe 2nd Grand Cru Classé 1855

Is it still really useful to present Cos d’Estournel? This 2nd growth classified from 1855 is by far the most famous Saint-Estèphe. Its powerful and elegant style, and the very consistent quality that it has demonstrated for more than 50 years make it one of the best Bordeaux, sometimes better rated than certain 1er grands crus classés.

Cos almost always has significant aging potential. The 1986 and 1988 vintages are still somewhat closed today.

Tasting advice:

Decant it at least 1 hour before tasting. Serving temperature: 17 to 18 degrees

The 1988 vintage is a great success at Cos, if it is not as imposing as the 1986 nor as harmonious as the 1990, it nonetheless remains a great Balanced Cos, concentrated with grilled and cocoa notes so particular that make the Cos inimitable.

Exceptional provenance in  OWC: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles were all preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles demonstrate storage in total darkness for more than 30 years!
