This 3rd classified growth of Saint-Julien is in a way the unloved of the gang. However, it shows a regularity and an admirable quality which allow it to shine on "weak" vintages like this one.

Tasted in March 2021, we were surprised by its structure. 1987 Has the reputation of .. no forget that, 1987 does not really have a reputation. At the opening, it is austere, almost dusty, in short, there is nothing to do with a very welcoming wine, whether on the nose or in the mouth. Nevertheless we feel that he can cheer up and that he has something to offer. After a good hour (two actually), it becomes much more pleasant, rather round in the mouth, quite ample, it offers aromas of undergrowth, leather and a liquorice finish. The structure is quite impressive for a 1987.

We advise you to open it at least two hours before a meal and to pair it with a simple but powerful dish (grilled eggplants, pan-fried mushrooms, death trumpets (you know the black mushrooms) in sauce.
