Leoville Barton 1986 - Saint-Julien
Presentation of the domain:
Located in the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Léoville Barton is a historic wine estate that dates back to the 18th century. Owned by the Barton family for more than 200 years, the estate was classified as a 2nd Classified Growth in 1855. Covering an area of 47 hectares, the vineyard is planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The philosophy of the Barton family is to produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of Saint-Julien, while highlighting the purity and elegance of each vintage.
Presentation of the cuvée:
The Léoville Barton cuvée is the estate's first wine, considered one of the references of the Saint-Julien appellation. It is the result of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, harvested by hand from the estate's best plots. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with prolonged maceration and aging for 18 months in French oak barrels (60% new). The 1986 Léoville Barton is a classic vintage from the Bordeaux region, marked by favorable climatic conditions for the ripening of the grapes.
The 1986 vintage:
The 1986 Léoville Barton cuvée is a deep and complex wine, offering aromas of ripe black fruits, spices and subtly integrated woody notes. On the palate, it has a silky texture and a firm tannic structure, testifying to the aging potential of this wine. The 1986 vintage was marked by hot and dry climatic conditions, producing concentrated and well-balanced grapes.
Food/wine pairing:
Léoville Barton 1986 goes well with grilled or roasted red meats, dishes with sauce, aged cheeses and game dishes. It is recommended to uncork the bottle at least one hour before serving, at a temperature of 18°C.
Notice from WUAT:
To fully enjoy the aromas and flavors of Léoville Barton 1986, it is recommended to decant it for an hour (or three) before serving it.
At Wuat we really like Léoville Barton, the quality is very consistent, the style of the wine is classic and cut for laying down. On top of that the more "reasonable" price than another Léoville… So why not let yourself be seduced?
