4.5 hectare estate located in the village of Preignac in Sauternes. The estate is unique in the region in its tradition of prolonged aging of its sweet white wines before marketing and, in most cases, the wines will spend 15 to 20 years in concrete vats and minimal (if any) aging in barrels.
The flagship wine of Château Gilette is the Crème de Tête made in varying volumes from the first juices from the press. Gilette wines (including Crème de Tête) are a blend mainly of Sémillon, with a little Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.
A medium dark golden yellow color. The aromas from the bottle can quickly fill a room. Candied kumquats, orange marmalade and tangy apricot. Rich, surprisingly youthful, apricot and mineral palate with laser-like definition, a dried mushroom note and good acidity, long finish.
Critics are unanimous that this Gilette Doux from 1955 does not look its age and seems immortal. A perfect bottle to celebrate a 1955 vintage
Exceptional provenance and color: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles were all preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles demonstrate storage in total darkness for more than 30 years!
