Do you know where the name Trotanoy comes from? In Old French, "trop anoi" or "trop ennuie" signifies the weariness of working the land.
The area of just over 7 hectares, is located on one of the best exposed parts of the famous Pomerol plateau.
The Jean-Pierre Moueix establishments (Latour, Lagrange, Belair-Monange, Dominus, etc.) acquired it in 1953.
The mix of the soils gives the wine power and depth as well as great complexity.
Château Trotanoy is one of Pomerol's most sought-after wines and produces wines suitable for decades of aging!
Tasting advice: Not easy for the 2001 vintage to find a place after the grandiose 2000. And yet it has its own style, a little more "rustic" with very firm tannins but fortunately softened by two decades of aging. A passage in a carafe will do it the greatest good.
Tasting notes from René Gabriel January 2022: 2001 Château Trotanoy, Pomerol:
Color: Right Dark wine red with the first tones of ripeness.
Nose: Accessible bouquet, lots of liquorice, bakelite, carbonileum, prunes, and a touch of corinths.
Mouth: Succulent, beautifully balanced palate, again a nice, almost smoky Merlot spice showing. Somehow he still mediates certain reserves. So decant longer or keep it for a few more years. Belongs on the one hand to the big ones, on the other hand also to the more soothing vintages of this one great winery. 19/20
