Château Lagrange 1985 - 3rd classified growth of Saint-Julien
This 3rd classified growth from Saint-Julien is in some ways the unloved of the bunch. However, it demonstrates a regularity and admirable quality which allow it to shine in “weak” vintages.
Like many of its contemporaries, this Lagrange from 1985 has passed its peak of maturity. The fruitiness has given way to more evolved notes and aromas of tobacco, earth, cedar, olive, grass and pepper. This firm, classic but very complex wine will appeal to lovers of old wines. However, it has great aging potential, making it still widely drinkable today.
The 1985 vintage is one of the best produced by Château Lagrange with 89 Parker point. We therefore advise you to wake it up gently by serving it at least two hours after opening the bottle.
Exceptional provenance: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles were all preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles demonstrate storage in total darkness for more than 30 years!
