Trotanoy 2003 - Pomerol
Do you know where the name Trotanoy comes from? In Old French, "trop anoi" or "trop ennuie" signifies the weariness of working the land.
The area of just over 7 hectares, is located on one of the best exposed parts of the famous Pomerol plateau.
The Jean-Pierre Moueix establishments (Latour, Lagrange, Belair-Monange, Dominus, etc.) acquired it in 1953.
The mix of the soils gives the wine power and depth as well as great complexity.
Château Trotanoy is one of Pomerol's most sought-after wines and produces wines suitable for decades of aging!
2003 is a good year in Bordeaux, the wines are opulent and concentrated. Great wines like this Trotanoy will reach their peak after about twenty years of aging.
Tasting notes by René Gabriel from January 2022: Château Trotanoy 2003 Magnum, Pomerol
Color: What is striking compared to other vintages is its not particularly deep color, a minimal orange border, with a beautiful red inside.
Nose: Stuffy, smooth, almost a bit plump, expansive nose, lots of caramel, butter, coconut, vanilla and breakfast plum juice.
Palate: Rich on the palate like a Northern Rhone wine and somehow it tastes similar. Or simply as a rich Châteauneuf. In the finish we smell pepper berries.
In itself a great wine. If you are looking for a typical "Pomerol" wine at Trotanoy, it is not with this vintage. And he is not the only one in this hot year 2003. I am perhaps too critical because he will find his fans. 17/20
