Puligny-Montrachet 1996 1er cru "Les Folatières" - Gérard Chavy et Fils
Level: Perfect
Label: Almost Perfect
Color: Clear
Overall condition: Excellent
Les Folatières: This place classified as 1er cru takes its name from the "follots" which are layers of mist that frequently appear in this part of the vineyard.
About the 1996 vintage in Puligny Montrachet: Considered exceptional, it is one of the 15 greatest vintages produced since the beginning of the 20th century.
Tasted by Wuat in July 2021: A real Puligny "Old style" as we like them. The wine is fatty, concentrated, the tears cling to the glass. On the nose, buttery, pastry and slightly vanilla notes are followed by fresher notes of citrus and white flowers. We find smoothness and fat right from the start, the whole is rather well balanced, without oxidation or bitterness. The mineral finish is almost crisp but makes us salivate and makes you want to come back. We may regret the slight lack of freshness but it is really to be fussy. A superb value for money for those who wish to taste a real Puligny 1er cu.
