Côte-Rôtie "La Landonne" 2001 - E Guigal
About the domain: Is it very useful to introduce you to the E.Guigal domain (E for Etienne but we know that you already knew that)? Established in Ampuis since 1946, this large family estate is currently managed in the best possible way by the third generation of winegrowers. The estate owns some of the most illustrious plots in the Rhône Valley, of which this one is a part.
About the cuvée: La Landonne is a 100% Syrah goldsmith's cuvée from vines that are 35 years old on average, it is also probably the most "powerful" of the famous trio. After a meticulous sorting which will eliminate 25% of the harvest from only 2 HA, it benefits from aging for 40 months in new barrels. Unlike Mouline and Turque, this is not a monopoly for Guigal. But the vines that were planted for the birth of the generation in charge of the estate are particularly pampered.
About the 2001 vintage: An absolutely perfect vintage from north to south of the Rhône valley. The volumes were substantial, sometimes even requiring yield control. The Landonne rated 95 points is obviously very successful and can be enjoyed today or wait for many more years.
Note from WUAT: This bottle comes with many others from the cellar of a great Syrah lover. They have been beautifully preserved in a humid natural cellar, on metal cradles. Labels are often heavily disaggregated. We cleaned them very carefully and filmed them. We recommend not removing the films to avoid completely tearing off the labels. It's up to you to see if you're a player.
