Côte-Rôtie "La Mouline" 1997 - E Guigal
About the estate: Is it very useful to introduce you to the E.Guigal domain (E for Etienne but we know that you already knew it)? Established in Ampuis since 1946, this great family estate is currently managed in the best possible way by the third generation of winegrowers. The estate owns some of the most illustrious plots in the Rhône Valley, of which this one is a part.
About the 1997 vintage: The Northern Rhône as the big winner
La Mouline is a master's cuvée, a blend of powerful Syrah from the Côte Blonde softened with a little Viognier.
The 1997 vintage is, once again, a great success in the north of the Rhône valley. The Côtes-Rôties from this vintage are concentrated, structured and generally suitable for long aging. This Mouline will obtain the excellent rating of 96 points by Parker.
Conversely, the southern Rhône Valley and generally the other French wine regions have not benefited from a climate conducive to the production of a great vintage. This is why Syrah from the northern Rhône valley is in high demand in this vintage.
Note from WUAT: This bottle comes with many others from the cellar of a great Syrah lover. They have been beautifully preserved in a humid natural cellar, on metal cradles. Labels are often heavily disaggregated. We cleaned them very carefully and filmed them. You can't imagine the difficulty added by the "metal mesh that surrounds this bottle. We recommend not removing the films to avoid completely tearing off the labels. It's up to you to see if you are a player.
