Côte-Rôtie 1985 Magnum - Domaine de Vallouit
Bottles out from the estate! Excellent aging conditions.
About the domain:
The Vallouit estate was a magnificent family estate in the northern Rhône valley. One of the few to have vines in all the northern Rhône appellations, with the exception of Château Grillet, of course.
In 2001, the estate's vines were taken over by Guigal, which incorporated them into its most prestigious cuvées.
Tasting notes:
We tasted this magnum cuvée in June 2022 with other wines from the domaine de Vallouit. This very peppery Côte-Rôtie is particularly dense, offers aromas of liquorice and still some notes of black fruits! We could easily give hit twenty years less.
About the 1985 vintage:
An excellent vintage for Rhône wines and particularly for the Northern Rhône in Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage. The Syrahs are concentrated, balanced, rich and very aromatic. As often the great vintages of Côte-Rôtie age very well.
Detail for label:
It is indicated "75cl" on the label but it is indeed a 150cl. At that time it was not uncommon to use elements from other cuvées such as caps, corks or labels to be modified by hand.
