Château Ausone has been owned by the Vauthier family since 1974. It was previously owned by the Dubois Chalon family.
It is a confidential vineyard of only 7 HA which produces on average less than 25,000 bottles per year. Extremely low quantity compared to the other great castles of Saint-Emilion and Bordeaux in general.
The grape variety is divided equally between Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
The 1988 vintage was marked in Bordeaux by heavy rains during the harvest period. Some Châteaux harvested too early, others on the contrary made the right choice to wait a bit. Ausone has produced a tannic and powerful wine that ages particularly well.
Find below the tasting notes of D. Fornage tasted in April 2011:
Aromas all in lace and elegance. Red fruits mingle with notes of vanilla and noble spices.
The wine is quite "straight" and a little strict in terms of tannins. The style is classic and pleasant.
