Château Margaux 1988 - 1st classified grand cru of Margaux
About the estate: No need to present this 1er grand cru Classé from 1855, the position of which no one will question. With its own style combining power, extreme finesse and incredible aging potential for the vast majority of its vintages, Château Margaux has a single vineyard. Another interesting fact, the barrels in which the great wine evolves are assembled and heated on site (see images). Finally, it is the only Château which has given its name to an appellation.
Since 1908 the Château has produced a second wine, the famous "Pavillon Rouge" (possibly the best of the second wines). And since 1997 a third wine "Margaux du Château Margaux" on which we will not comment.
About the vintage 1988: This Margaux wine is the result of varied weather conditions: a mild winter, a wet spring, and a hot and dry summer all contributed to its quality. The harvest took place in optimal conditions, with a harvest carried out on October 3rd.
Margaux 1988 offers a very deep color and a rich and intense nose, providing an exceptional sensory experience. The magnificent structure in the mouth reminds the 1986 vintage, with powerful and well-ripe tannins, but with slightly lower concentration and less austerity. You will appreciate that this vintage is beginning to open up well, offering an ideal opportunity to enjoy it now or to let it age a little longer.
