Domaine du Pégau 1997

The Féraud family has been operating wine estates since 1670. It was not until 1987 that the "Domaine du Pégau" was created. The "pégau" is the name of a wine pitcher used in the 14th century under the papal period, in Châteauneuf it was kind of obvious.

Very quickly the estate become famous and took its place among the best estates in Châteauneuf. The 1990 vintage is praised by the critics who place it among the three best domains of Châteauneuf! From the beginning, the vast majority, not to say all of the production is exported. This is why this estate is ultimately little known in France.

The Pégau estate operates 23 ha in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation but also produces Côtes du Rhône and Vin de France of very respectable quality.

The vinification is done in whole harvest, spontaneous fermentation thanks to indigenous yeasts and aging for 24 months in 50hl casks.

Serving advice: The wines of the Pégau estate are rich in "material" so they will tend to be cloudy during the service if it is done in a rush. So be sure to make a real decanting in the true sense of the word to avoid having a glass full of deposit.
