Level: Perfect

Overall condition: Excellent
Château de Beaucastel has long been considered one of the great wines of France. It is unanimously recognized for its balance, elegance and aging potential. Beaucastel has an extraordinary terroir at the northern end of the appellation with a strong exposure to the Mistral (you know the cool wind which crosses the eastern axis of France from North to South at very high speed). The 13 varieties of the appellation have been cultivated there organically since the 1960s.
The 1994 vintage: A hot summer, slightly late harvests and very low yields.
Blend of the 1994 vintage, still the way of simplicity in Châteauneuf:
30% Grenache / 30% Mourvèdre / 15% Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc, Roussanne / Syrah: 10% / Counoise: 10% / Cinsault: 5%
WUAT's opinion: This wine is a classic from Châteauneuf. Never disappointing, it ages beautifully. You can go there with your eyes closed! A two-hour opening for tasting will do it the greatest good.
