Pernand Ile des Vergelesses 1976 - Domaine Chandon de Briailles
In Domaine Chandon de Briailles, there is ... Chandon, which is reminiscent of Moët & Chandon! This is normal, historically it belonged to the Countess Chandon de Briailles who was related to the famous champagne house Moët & Chandon.
The family estate has existed since 1834. Located a few kilometers from Beaune, it has 13.7 hectares spread over three appellations: Savigny-Lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton.
50,000 bottles are produced there per year, 60% of which are exported to Japan, Korea, United Kingdom, Australia, United States, Canada ... among others.
The remaining 40% in France adorn the most beautiful tables of French gastronomy such as Le Petit Nice, Guy Savoy or even Pierre Gagnaire's restaurant to name a few (many of which have been featured in Top Chef;)) and some good wine merchants.
The estate is part of the "Domaines Familiaux de Tradition" association, which includes 28 of the most famous estates in Burgundy.
The family is committed to respectful viticulture since since 2005 they have been working the vines in a reasoned manner before radically changing the entire estate in 2008 to biodynamics. They have had Ecocert and Demeter certifications since 2011.
The Premier Cru "Ile des Vergelesses" plot consists of just over 3 hectares on vines averaging 40 years old. This is a cuvée of incredible strength.
