We are fortunate to be the worldwide exclusive seller of this Volnay Santenots 2004 from the Hospices de Beaune vintage.

We acquired the entirety of “La Pièce” purchased during the famous Hospices auctions by the no less famous Tonnellerie Remond.

The wine was aged and bottled by the Albert Bichot house and perfectly preserved in Burgundy, in Ladoix-Serrigny for almost 15 years. Only 472 bottles available for this 2004 vintage.

This vintage was produced by the Albert Bichot house. “Santenots” is a 1er cru from the Volnay appellation. There are three plots of Santenots: The white Santenots, the middle Santenots, the lower Santenots (yes the Burgundians are pragmatic).

Hospices wines

Every year, on the third Sunday in November, the famous "candlelight" auction of the Great Wines of the Domaine des Hospices takes place, built up over the centuries thanks to generous donations. These great wines in barrels are taken care of by the buyers who have the delicate mission of aging them and bottling them.

Tasting notes:

We tasted this wine twice. Each time the bottle did not last very long (which is a very good sign).

Color: Intense ruby with a slightly tiled edge, surprising intensity for a Pinot, which suggests a concentrated wine.

Nose: Very expressive from the opening, notes of blackcurrant jam, blackberries and Provence herbs. The second nose is more animal, with notes of cocoa and fresh tobacco appearing.

Mouth: Round and balanced attack, aromas of juicy black fruits, fresh spices, pepper and tobacco. The tannins are there, very melted but some remains. Long finish with fresh tobacco retronasally

A superb wine close to its peak which will evolve nicely for another decade.
