Gevrey-Chambertin 2001 - Cuvée Vieilles Vignes - Domaine Charlopin
Level: Perfect
Label: Perfect
General condition: Perfect
The Charlopin estate has existed "only" since 1977. At that time it was called domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot and had only 1.5 ha of vines. Today the estate is a must in Burgundy and covers more than 25 ha.
The Charlopin estate has always produced powerful, concentrated wines that have been aged for a long time in barrels, and that's a good thing. Because Gevrey-Chambertin are above all wines made for aging. This appellation is often considered to be the one producing the most powerful wines in Burgundy. Which is, in our opinion, fair enough.
Have you ever tasted Gevrey that is less than 15 years old? Besides the fact that it is a crime to drink them so young, it is also a real shame because they do not fully develop the bouquet of liquorice, leather, fur and undergrowth which characterizes them in their maturity.
If you wish to discover or deepen your knowledge of Burgundy wines and particularly the influence of vintages, it is probably with the wines of Gevrey that you will have to engage.
