Champagne Pol Roger Extra Reserve Cuvée 2000
The Pol Roger estate, in Epernay, was born in 1848, when Pol Roger, 18, sold his first bottles. The Sparnacian house has remained family-run. It is known to be Winston Churchill's favorite champagne. It is also the reference wine of the English court, and was notably served at the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry (even if this anecdote is probably no longer a good selling point).
On the nose, it reveals a complex and subtle aromatic palette, with notes of dried fruits, spices and honey. On the palate, it is refined and elegant, with good tension and a lingering finish.
The 2000 vintage was described as "very good" by champagne experts. The Pol Roger house produced this vintage in limited quantities, which makes it a rare champagne and sought after by lovers of great champagnes.
