CHATEAU PICHON-LONGUEVILLE BARON 1990 - PAUILLAC 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855
About Château Pichon Baron:
The Pichon Baron domain covers 73 ha of excellent quality gravelly soils which nourish in a balanced way the different varieties of vine stocks whose average age is 35 years.
A selection of the oldest vines is dedicated to the production of Pichon Baron, the great wine of the house, whose number of bottles is limited.
About the cuvée:
The 1990 vintage of Château Pichon Longueville Baron is a complex and elegant wine, made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (73%) and Merlot (27%). This vintage is considered one of the greatest in the Pauillac appellation, and is distinguished by its depth and balance. The nose reveals aromas of black fruits, spices, and tobacco, while the palate unveils a solid tannic structure and a long finish.
We have frequently tasted the Pichon Baron and Comtesse. Usually the Comtesse is our clients' favorite. But we had some very nice surprises with Baron, especially on closed vintages like 86 or 88. On 1990 baron is the best from far !
About the vintage 1990:
The 1990 vintage was marked by ideal climatic conditions, with a hot and dry summer that allowed for optimal grape maturity. Critics unanimously praised the exceptional quality of this vintage, calling it a "grand cru classé". This wine can be enjoyed now, but also has a significant aging potential. It is an ideal choice for wine lovers looking for a unique experience.
Exceptional provenance in OWC: These bottles come from a cellar of a great Swiss enthusiast and collector. We have acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles were all preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th century convent. A damp cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect and the most "fragile" bottles demonstrate storage in total darkness for more than 30 years!
