Ranked Premier Cru in 1973 only and not 1855 like its counterparts. Château Mouton Rothschild is now considered one of the greatest wines in the world. It greatly surpasses some original Premier Cru Classés in terms of popularity.
The mutton jumps and it is not the most regular of the band of 1er crus until the 2000s. On the other hand, when a vintage is great, it is exceptional! The 1945 or 1982 vintages are legends that almost eclipse the competition! This qualitative irregularity is no more. Today the Mouton is big and can measure up to the best without fear.
The 1990 vintage label is illustrated by American artist Francis Bacon.
Tasting notes:
Open and expressive, this wine offers evolved aromas of blond tobacco, game as well as very pleasant mineral notes.
On the palate, the attack is soft and progressive. The tannic structure, fine and silky, suggests that this Mouton Rothschild has reached full maturity. The fruit, rather discreet on the nose, is fully expressed on the palate with notes of macerated fruit and prunes in brandy.
Beautiful tangy and airy finish.

If you are reading these lines, there is no need to introduce you to the 1990 vintage. It is the vintage of the century for the entire French vineyard (At WUAT we prefer 1989 but that is a matter of taste). The great Bordeaux wines have exceptional aging potential.
