Gevrey-Chambertin "Au Vellé" 1996 - Denis Mortet
A very beautiful achievement from the late winemaker who died in 2006.
Denis Mortet's wines are today among the most sought after on the collectors' and enthusiasts' market (and this is perfectly justified). Denis Mortet's wines are generally powerful and designed to age. The style has changed significantly since Arnaud Mortet took over the estate.
We hope this bottle will be tasted and appreciated.
Tasting notes:
This wine is a dark ruby/purple color and displays flavors of sweet, juicy cherries and blackcurrants. It is an oily, fat, ample, fleshy, firmly structured, square and masculine wine, full of blackberries, iron and stones. This tannic, brooding, austere offering will require patience, but I'm confident it will evolve beautifully - much like a similarly constructed Nuits. R.Parker
WUAT Notes: This bottle comes from the cellar of a great lover of Burgundy and Rhodanian Syrah wines. The labels may have been damaged by the humidity of the natural cellar. But the quality of conservation is impeccable, and the essential is there.
